christmas memories
Ahoy!
So, I know my past couple posts for the Gazette's advent calendar have been on the downer side, so lemme balance it out with some of the positive stuff. I wanted to share the good memories I've had with Christmas and the days surrounding it.
I don't really remember many Christmases, I only really remember vaguely what I or my parents got. I remember things like my mom's Saint's (the NFL team) Snuggy, getting an iPod Nano (when the 3rd gen was the newest one), an iPod Touch.
I will say, the Christmas I got my first Xbox 360 was magic. This was not long after it's launch, and my dad had gotten the Arcade edition (the one that came with the arcade compilation disc). Seeing the Blades dashboard for the first time did something to my brain that I can't explain.
I've mentioned in one of my previous advent calendar posts about how my dad always tried to make Christmas special, especially when times were at their toughest. Him semi-recreating the scene from A Christmas Story, in which Ralphie's dad does the whole "did you get everything you want? Oh, what's that over there" thing. There was also the scavenger hunt that lead me to a beautiful blue Epiphone Les Paul, the 2nd guitar I've ever owned (it's made even more special because I literally can't find a duplicate of this guitar anywhere).
I remember the year I got Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary from my uncle, came with a stuffed Grunt that I have sitting on my Halo Edition OG XBOX.
Since becoming an adult, I remember the Christmas my wife and I were gifted dirt bikes from her parents, THAT was a surprise. It was lightly snowing outside, and we were told to go outside and lo and behold were 2 dirt bikes. They unfortunately went unused and were later sold shortly after my in-laws got divorced.
I don't know what to expect for this coming Christmas. I will say that I'm excited to see my daughter unwrapping all of her gifts.
Moving forward, I think I will have a lot more positive Christmas experiences now that the focus is mostly centering my daughter. Getting to be Santa, taking her to get pictures with the mall Santa, taking her through areas with decorative lights. Getting to see her excitement on Christmas day will probably always be a highlight.
