Elle (100,000 miles)
Elle, my 2018 Nissan Sentra, has officially hit the 100k miles mark. I bought her in around 2020, I wanted a Nissan to keep my naming theme of [L-related name] + Nissan. My first car being an '03 Nissan Altima I named Liam (get it? Liam Nissan? Hold for laughter). Anyway, Elle was the name I went with. Dunno why, but I went with a feminine name, maybe something about the car just said "yeah this car is a girl". Last car I opted to be masculine, so it made sense to flip genders.
We hit 100k miles on my way home from AZ, after going to the Linkin Park concert Sept. 6 (might write about that at later time). I felt like I wanted to write a reflection to my car.
If I'm being honest, the car is very boring. It's a v4, not a ton of power behind it. A pure and simple commuter. However, what it lacks in fun, it makes up for in reliability, and its entertainment system. For a 2018, I never would have expected to find a CD player and an iPod player. The entertainment system is the one thing this car has over my wife's 2024 Ford Edge.
Elle is easy to maintain, I learned how to change my oil with her. Her engineering made the process really easy. For a modern car, she's rather simple to maintain, and relatively low maintenance.
My favorite memories with Elle:
You were there for many, many trips to visit the woman who would become my wife when we spent over a year in a long-distance relationship. Thousands of miles traveled for love.
Elle was what got me from my house with my parents, to moving in with my girlfriend (now-wife) in another state. I packed her full of my stuff, and placed my childhood dog in the passenger seat. My old girl slept soundly in your passenger seat as we drove for 5hrs to begin again, during COVID too no less.
I remember going 80 on the freeway one summer midnight, and a tire blew. Never had a tire blow on the freeway, never had a tire blow period. Had to call my girlfriend to come pick me up after a cop helped me swap my tire for the spare.
You were there when I proposed to my wife. One of the best days of my life.
You were the car we drove home in after our wedding. Decked out in streamers and dry-erase marker. You had "twinkie time" scribbled on the passenger window for a bit too long. I'm surprised my wife's Mormon relatives didn't have a stroke.
You were the car I brought home my daughter in from the hospital after she was born.
So, from 100k miles, here's to 100k more. Thanks Elle.
