Absurd Pirate's Internet Blog

For the Beautiful People Who Read My Blog

I've been meaning to write this post for a while, but was worried about being perceived as egotistical. In spite of that, I've still wanted to write it because I'm regularly surprised by the sweet emails I get from the people who read my posts.

When I first started this blog, I had really no idea what would become of it. I mostly just wrote for catharsis or fun. The blog eventually grew, I changed how the site looks several times, I made quite a number of friends on here who are all lovely people, and I began to see that people actually liked what I said enough to personally reach out.

I got into some beef with some rightoid weirdo a year ago and someone who came to that person's defense called me out for "picking on the little guy". Like what? It's Bear, dude, not Youtube. We're all little guys here.

I realized recently that I actually have people on my email list. Which to those of you who are subscribed to me via email, I really apologize. I had no clue anyone had subscribed there and even still I have no fucking clue what to do with it. If there's something you'd like to see from my email list, lemme know and I'll see what to do about that. Lol

The emails I get from people (who aren't Chinese B2B salespeople, seriously what the fuck am I going to do with an enterprise water cooling system?) blow me away every time. I actually get so excited about many of them that I'll show them to Mrs. Pirate like a kid showing his mom this really cool stick he found while out playing.

I think the thing that really surprised me the most was the amount of people who reached out to send messages of support to my mom who is currently going through chemotherapy. I've gotten verklempt from several of them, and I know Mama Pirate has printed out every single one that I've sent to her (which was all of them).

I think all this shows that people actually seem to like my blog enough to stick around. Which is a surprise to me because I'm just saying shit off the top of my head. If my common grammatical/spelling mistakes didn't clue in, I don't really plan these posts out. I just kinda get inspired to say something and then write it out within an hour. This blog is like if my journal got Truman Show'd.

The thing that humbles me the most is the emails I get from people who share their personal stories. It's one thing to say "I like your funny words pirate man!" (which I always appreciate), it's another to thing when people open up about their personal lives. I had one email, and it's the one that inspired me to write this post, where this lovely lady told me she keeps up with my blog in honor of her late husband who loved all things pirate-themed. Which is probably one of the greatest compliments I've ever received.

All this to say, I'm very grateful for everyone who reads my blog. I'm grateful to the people who reach out via email or write in my guestbook. It truly means the world. I don't have any plans of stopping this blog. I love writing, and I love the people in this community, as anonymous as they may be.

If you've been following me for a while, thank you, I hope I write something you routinely enjoy. If you're new to my blog, welcome aboard! To all my friends from the indie web scene, your friendship means more to me than you know.

All that being said, have a great day/afternoon/night and be kind to yourself. Pirate out.

as of writing this...

You ever have one of those dreams that runs so long, but you enjoy it so much that your alarm wakes you up and you think "FUCK PUT ME BACK"? Yeah that's how I woke this morning. It's been a busy week. Went to a wedding over the weekend, which was boring as hell, but they had some pretty good food. So I couldn't complain too much. It was also nice to hang out with Mrs. Pirate's cousins who I'm close with. I got to laughing because after the wedding itself, they directed everyone to "cocktail hour". Which I'm thinking "these are all Mormons, what kinda cocktail hour are we having? Dirty sodas?" They basically just served lemonade and small appetizers. I still enjoyed it if nothing more than for the food and conversation with family. I think I slammed like 5 bruschetta servings and like 10 meat skewers before it was time for dinner. Which I then proceeded to eat enough for 3 people. I'm amazed that I'm below 15% bodyfat. Did a family dinner with Mrs. and Mini Pirate at Olive Garden (which I have a blog post about that I'm wanting to write) and had a good time. I think the servers are catching onto my scheme because they've been skimping out on the to-go soup portions, either that or it was just the waitress. I think both times I've had slim portions on the soup I had that same waitress both times. Anyway, OH, I also bought this really dope Squirtle bong and he's got the Squirtle Squad sunglasses. Friggen love it, and the guy at the headshop bent over backwards to get me a 20% off discount on it. He kept apologizing profusely about it taking so long for him to get it applied and I'm just like "dude you're doing ME a favor don't worry about it". He said he was gonna take 15% off, but then I guess decided to take 20% off which was like the best deal I was ever going to get. To all my stoners out there, support your local head shop! If you get a guy who's enthusiastic about his selection of glass, you're in for a treat. I made a copycat Arizona Green Tea, which to me tastes better than the original as much as I love it. I feel like the quality has gone downhill, I had one a week or two ago and that shit was straight kombucha. Fuckin nasty. So I've been using some of my jasmine tea to make a copycat, and I think it's been coming along really well, just need to get my hands on some ginseng extract. I'm realizing this is a really long "as of writing this", so I'll end it here before I end up writing another blog post within a blog post.
