I Fucking Love Trains

The autistic guy likes trains, big shock. While I wouldn't consider myself a train aficionado, I really fucking love trains as a means for public transit. It's the superior way to travel.

I live in an area that thankfully has decent-enough public transportation. Most notably a train that runs basically the entire length of the northern part of the state. I leave my house, drive 5 minutes, and then hop on a train to the city, hop on a tram that takes me a few minutes walk to work. It's beautiful.

I hate driving for the most part. If I'm not on a long scenic drive where I can just be lost in my own daydreaming for a while and admire the vast empty road, it's a hellscape otherwise.

No more morning rush traffic. No more coming to a complete stop because some jackass on his way to his big dipshit meeting decided to turn left on the northbound freeway. No more worrying if I'm gonna get pulled over by a cop for some stupid fucking reason. No more Dudes with little dicks with their big ass trucks with their sun-bright fucking headlights tailgating me as I'm going 15 over the speed limit.

Sure, it takes me half an hour longer to get to and from work. But in that time I can literally do just about ANYTHING. I can play on my PSP, read a book, listen to music and stare out the window, draw, journal, webcraft, take a short nap, write, whatever. I don't have to just sit for an hour, staring at someone's car ass blasting music to keep my brain from exploding.

My train commute only got better after my move because instead of an almost 2hr commute one way (factoring in the 1.5hr train ride and the 15minute drive home), It's roughly an hour (hour train ride, 5 minute drive home).

There is a few downsides to the train. While the morning trains depart every half hour, the afternoon trains depart every hour which is kinda annoying. You have to be aware of weather BEFORE you leave to prepare accordingly because otherwise you'll find yourself stuck with no jacket during a rain storm. The stations are basically anti-homeless, so they don't make benches comfortable for waits, nor is there much coverage in case of rain or snow, so you're basically just getting raw-dogged by the inclement weather. If you forgot something in your car after the train has already departed, you're fucked. It's less flexible than a car, you have to be sure you arrive on time.

Despite this, I see the pros far outweigh the cons. I fucking love trains, I fucking hate our car-dominated society.

as of writing this...

Took my first train ride since moving to my new place. It's been so nice. Since moving, I can now wake up about 15 minutes later. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but man is it nice. Forgot my fucking badge in my car at the station. The cost of having ADHD I suppose. Every time I switch up my routine I think that is always something I forget. Oh well, I was able to get let into my office, so not much of an inconvenience. Gonna make tacos for dinner.
